David has been involved in the organic agricultural movement and trade since 1978 as a farmer and a founder and employee of Organically Grown Company (OGC) in various roles, including Production and Promotion Coordinator, warehouser, buyer, seller, Marketing Director, Vice-President of Sales and Marketing and Pioneer Emeritus.  David contributed to the founding of the Sustainable Food Trade Association (SFTA) and initiated the creation of the Organic Produce Wholesalers Coalition and the biennial Organicology conference.  David has shared his commitment and knowledge of the trade while sitting on the boards of the Center for Applied Agricultural Research, OGC, Oregon Tilth, SFTA, Organic Seed Alliance, Organic Trade Association and the Oregon Organic Coalition, as well as the Sustainable Agriculture and Food Perpetual Purpose Trust’s Trust Protector Committee.
